Ionia Philippouci
Psychotherapist
I am a licensed psychotherapist who specializes in helping adults struggling with anxiety, depression and relationship issues. I am particularly interested in the treatment of symptoms of anxiety and depression as it relates to recurrent patterns that cause dysfunction in people’s lives. My skills allow me to experience a broad range of emotions, establish significant links between clinical situations and theoretical knowledge and build a caring and gentle therapeutic dialogue that will help us quickly and effectively identify the origins of your struggles and tackle the issues you may be experiencing in the present. Together, we gently explore your thoughts, emotions and behaviour. You are therefore encouraged to become aware of any underlying issues contributing to your current struggles and of the impact that some of these issues may have on your well-being. My role is to help you identify them, their patterns and to find methods that will ultimately allow you to improve your insight and adjust your behaviour.
I received my B.A. in Psychology from McGill University and went on to complete my Master’s degree in Career and Guidance Counselling from Laval University. I then completed my three-year training in Object Relational Gestalt Therapy at the Centre d’Intégration Gestaltiste and completed several advanced professional workshops in various models of the psychodynamic and neurodynamic approaches. I have always been fascinated with how our early relationships with our caregivers affect who we are and how we cope today, and have thus taken a particular interest as a therapist in the link between early childhood attachment and emotional development, and personality formation.
Most of my experience comes from working in community and private practice settings where I have helped individuals suffering from symptoms of anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress, and relationship issues.
I work in English, French and Greek in a private office out of the West Island where I offer individual psychotherapy services to adolescents, adults and seniors. I work with an integrative approach that combines psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive-behavioural techniques. My method consists of working interactively with you to encourage a conversation that allows for a meeting of the ways in which you think and feel, as well as your unique way of being.
I am a licensed psychotherapist with the Order of Psychologists of Quebec. I offer daytime and evening appointment times. Ultimately, my goal is to provide a safe place for you to gain awareness, repair wounds of the past and present, and experience significant change. It would be my pleasure to help you on your journey, and look forward to meeting you.
