Emma Cohen
Psychotherapist

Hi there! My name is Emma, and I am a Psychotherapist at the Healing Tree with experience working with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, eating disorders and body image, and relational trauma among adolescents and adults. My focus is on creating a warm and empathetic space where you may feel understood, respected and supported unconditionally.

Entering a therapeutic relationship may feel uncomfortable or scary. As a trauma-informed therapist, I understand that safety and trust in the therapeutic alliance are not to be taken for granted but built collaboratively and worked on regularly. I strive to create an open, non-judgemental space where you may feel able to bring your whole self. Together, we will explore the roots of your suffering, identify the patterns that no longer serve you and develop new, healthier habits.

I will work collaboratively with you, tailoring my approach to your unique needs. As a humanistic therapist, I believe you are the expert on yourself. My role is to help guide you as you harness the skills you already possess to create change. Using an integrative approach, I draw on humanistic, cognitive behavioural, attachment, and emotion-focused therapy.

Much of my experience comes from working in educational and hospital settings helping with anxiety, depression, suicidality and self-harm, trauma and interpersonal difficulties. My experiences have taught me strong active listening skills, particularly in highly emotional and sensitive settings. Previously working in the field of psychosocial oncology, I have developed a deep interest in the relationship between the body and our emotional experience. I often incorporate sensorimotor interventions and concepts to work through the legacy trauma has left on the body.

I received my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from McGill University. I am a licensed counsellor with the Ordre des Conseillers et Conseilleres du Quebec (OCCOQ), and a licensed psychotherapist with the Ordre des Psychologues du Quebec (OPQ).
